SUMMARY:The Universal Power of Art Opening Exhibition
LOCATION:Shari Brownfield Fine Art\, 55 South Glenwood Street\, Jackson\,
  WY\, 83001
DESCRIPTION:A collage built from old memories. A row of watercolor landsc
apes. A ceramic sculpture titled Calling for Help. None of the work in U
niversal Power of Art was made to be shown. It was created to heal or pr
ocess\, and only afterward chosen to be seen. Universal Power of Art is
an exhibition of work by nine artists connected through the practice of
local art therapist Leann Dzemske\, M.Sc.\, ATR\, LPC\, of HeART Revolut
ion Therapy and Counseling. The exhibition opens during Mental Illness A
wareness Week and remains on view from October 5 through October 30\, a
period that also includes World Mental Health Day on October 10. This ex
hibition is also a way to honor everyone navigating a mental health stru
ggle in their own way\, seen or not. Much of the work in the show is not
for sale. Where a piece can be purchased\, proceeds go to the artist di
rectly or to a local nonprofit selected by the artist\, among them the M
ental Wellness Collaborative\, which provides affordable office space to
mental health providers in Teton County\, so every purchase becomes a d
irect way to support mental health services in Teton County. Wyoming has
ranked among the three states with the highest suicide rates in the cou
ntry for years\, according to the CDC\, one reason that support matters
as much as it does here.\nThe catalog did not print a separate price.\nS
